Biographical Information

Matthew Luckiesh graduated from Purdue University in 1909 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He received a Master of Science from The State University of Iowa in 1911 and a Doctor of Science from the Iowa State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts in 1926. Luckiesh worked for the General Electric Lighting Research Laboratory in Ohio, later becoming Director of the Research Laboratory from 1924 until his retirement in 1949. Luckiesh was known as the Father of the Science of Seeing for his work on light, color, and vision.
