Gougar, Helen Mar Jackson, 1843-1907

Biographical Information

Helen M. Gougar was born on July 18, 1843 in Hillsdale County, Michiga. In 1860, she moved to Lafayette, Indiana. Gougar was an early supporter and advocate for women's right to vote. In 1894, she attempted to vote in a state election but was denied. She susequently sued the Tippecanoe County election board. Gougar died on June 6, 1907 in Lafayette, Indiana.
