Biographical Information

Savaiano received a bachelor's degree in biology from Claremont McKenna College. He received his master's degree and Ph.D. in nutrition from University of California at Davis. He taught in the department of Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Minnesota from 1980-1995. He is an associate Provost and Professor of Foods and Nutrition at Purdue University. He has researched lactose intolerance for many years. His research has attempted to understand and identify the dietary factors that can improve lactose intolerance which in turn would promote adequate calcium intake. Most of his research articles focus in that area. He was Dean of Consumer and Family Sciences at Purdue from 1995-2010. He was inducted into the Foods and Nutrition Hall of Fame at Purdue University. He moved to Purdue in 1995.
