Biographical Information
Smith was born on September 26, 1937 in Birmingham, Alabama. He passed away on October 2, 2011. He received his bachelor's degree in engineering physics in 1960 and an MBA in 1961 from The Ohio State University. He was an instructor of management at Purdue University. He completed his Ph.D. in finance at Purdue University in 1966. He was part of the faculty at UCLA Graduate School of Management. He served as assistant dean of the doctoral program from 1971-74 at UCLA. He also served as associate dean from 1977-79. In 1979, he went back to Purdue and served as dean of the Krannert School. He published many articles and books. Some of the topics included option writing, financial planning, conglomerate mergers, and real estate investments.
