Bourland, Joe D. (Joe Dan Bourland), 1942-

Bourland was born in Kermit, Texas, Winkler County. He received his B.A. in 1965 and B.S. in electrical engineering in 1966 both from Rice University. He went on to receive his Ph.D. in physiology in 1974 from Baylor with Dr. Geddess as his major professor. He went on to establish the Hillenbrand Biomedical Engineering Center at Purdue University with his mentor Dr. Leslie A. Geddes, and other colleasgues, Drs. Willis A Tacker, Jr. and Charles F. Babbs. Bourland helped to find a new way to monitor patients on anesthesia through disposable pneumotachographs while at Purdue University.
