Biographical Information

Amstutz was born in Tuscarawas County near Barrs Mills, Ohio on June 21st, 1919. He died on June 11, 2013. He received his bachelors degree in agriculture in 1942 and a Doctor in Veterinary Medicine in 1945 from The Ohio State University. In 1947, he was an instructor at the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He was a professor a chair of that department. He came to Purdue in 1961 and until 1975, he served as head of the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. He was a professor emeritus of Veterinary Clinical services at Purdue. He served in the Army. In 1987, there was a national award named in his honor. The award honered Amstutz and Dr. Eric I. Williams. The American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) named them the first recipients of the award and named it the AABP Amstutz-Williams Award.
