Biographical Information

Dr. Coppoc was born in 1939 in Larned, Kansas. He grew up in Belpre, Kansas. He enlisted in the AirForce in the Berry Plan during the Vietnam war. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1961 and then in 1963 with a doctorate in veterinary medicine. He attended Harvard and graduated with a Ph.D. in pharmacology. He spent a year at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill in the School of Medicine. During this time is when he first taught while working on his Ph.D. in 1968. He was at the School of Aerospace Medicine, Brooks Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas conducting research and teaching. He did a post-doc in Chicago, Illinois at University of Chicago. Dr. Coppoc completed two years of post-doc and was then hired by Purdue University in August of 1971. He was an assistant professor when he first arrived, and in 1979, eight years later, became the department head. He was an assistant dean with Indiana University School of Medicine and department head in the Purdue Vet School up until December 31, 2008.
