Biographical Information
John M. Cleland was born on April 29, 1951, in Rochester, IN. After graduating from Rochester High School in 1969, he attended Purdue University, graduating with a B.S. in Animal Science in 1973. After graduation, John worked for Genetic Plus for five years, before spending the next 31 years teaching Biology at Zionsville High School.
In 2004, John received the Sagamore of the Wabash Award, the highest honor bestowed by the governor of Indiana. In 2014, Purdue awarded him with the Department of Animal Sciences Distinguished Alumni Award. In 2018, John published “Ice Cream Cones as Casualties,” a book on the history of the Purdue Creamery. John passed away on February 7, 2022.
