Biographical Information

He was born in Tippecanoe County, Lafayette, Indiana on January 17, 1933. He was in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) for two years. He received his bachelor's and master's degree from Purdue University and Ph.D. from Rutgers University in agricultural biochemistry for nutrition. While he was there, he also taught four courses full time in the dairy science department. Then, he worked at the University of Wisconsin, Madison as his first post Ph.D. job for eight years. He was at the University of Wisconsin, Madison in '59 and in '64 he was promoted to associated professor and remained there until '67. He then moved to Penn State University and then Purdue University. He retired from Purdue University at the end of January in 1998. Dr. Baumgardt's expertise is in animal nutrition and physiology with a dairy emphasis.
