Biographical Information
Alexander "Sasha" Shulgin was born on June 17, 1925. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in biochemistry from U. C. Berkeley in 1954, and did post-doctorate work in psychiatry and pharmacology before becoming a senior research chemist at Dow Chemical company. Starting in the 1960s, Shulgin became interested in the production and effects of psychoactive substances, going on to synthesize MDMA in 1965. Over his lifetime, Sasha produced and self-tested hundreds of different psychoactive substances and had a profound effect on the psychoactive community as a whole, coining the nickname "the godfather of psychedelics". He passed away on June 2, 2014.
