Biographical Information

David A. Studebaker, born September 25, 1942, was one of the first students of computer science at Purdue, taking a non-credit Fortran II class in late 1962, around the time the Computer Science department was being established.  He was a student worker in the Purdue Computing Center from 1963 to 1965. As a student teaching assistant, he taught two classes for Professor Donn Novotny. David graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, having taken the CS courses then available at Purdue.  He has worked in software development since graduation.

Studebaker papers document the beginnings of the Computer Science Department at Purdue University.  The collection contains computer program manuals created at Purdue University, computer punch cards with printouts, and a copy of “Elements of Numerical Analysis” by Dr. Sam Conte.
