Biographical Information
Steven C. Beering was the ninth president of Purdue University, serving from 1983 to 2000. He was born on August 20, 1932 in Berlin, Germany. He served on the U.S. Air Force. He earned his bachelor's and medical degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. He was the dean of the Indiana School of Medicine and director of the IU Medical Center at Indiana University. After he stepped down from being president of Purdue University, he continued to work for Purdue raising funds as president emeritus. He was awarded an honorary doctorate of science from Purdue University. Dr. Steven C. Beering created the Beering Scholarship available at Purdue University.

The Steven C. Beering papers (1950-2001, 6.5 cubic feet) include interview transcripts and scripts for Vision for Tomorrow, Beta and VHS tapes of interviews and other material relating to the life and career of Steven Beering, president of Purdue University. The papers include a variety of tapes and DVDs that document activities on the Purdue University campus, relating to events at Westwood, the Black Cultural Center (BCC), and other locations.
