Biographical Information

Sherman O. Kessler graduated from Purdue in 1936 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry. He earned a Master's degree in Agricultural Economics in 1938. He was active in farming in Montgomery County for more than 52 years, raising hogs, beef and corn.

Kessler served on the Board of Trustees from July 1973 to June 30, 1988. He also served as president of the Indiana Farm Management Association and was the recipient of two Sagamore of the Wabash awards. Kessler was a member of the Board of Trustees of Indiana Vocational and Technical College [now Ivy Tech Community College], served on the Purdue University President's Council, and was a member of the Purdue Farm Policy Study Group.

Scope and Contents Includes a complete run of The Purdue student newspaper of the 1880s, which ran from 1882-1888. A total of 54 issues appear in the collection, separated into six volumes. Volume 1 has eight issues, published monthly from November 1882 until June 1883. Volumes 2 through 6 have nine issues each, published monthly from October to June.
