Biographical Information
Dressel D. Ewing was born in Vanlue, Ohio in 1883. He received degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering from Ohio Northern University in 1905 and 1906. In 1936 he was honored by his alma mater and awarded the degree of doctor of engineering.
Dr. Ewing joined the Purdue staff in 1913 as an assistant professor of electrical engineering and was awarded the rank of full professor five years later. He became head of the School of Electrical Engineering in 1942, remaining in that position until his retirement in 1954.
He was a former trustee of Ohio Northern University, a fellow of the American Institute of Electrical Engineering, a trustee of the Alessandro Volta Memorial Fund, a member of the Society for the Promotion of Engineering Education, and a member of the Hoover Award Committee. He held memberships in Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, Sigma Xi, and Theta Tau fraternities. Dr. Ewing was a director of the Duncan Electric Manufacturing Company, a member of the Lafayette Rotary Club and the Central Presbyterian Church.
