Biographical Information

Charles L. Ingersoll was born in Perry, New York, in 1844. Ingersoll served in the Ninth Michigan Cavalry during the Civil War and then enrolled at the State Agricultural College of Michigan where he later taught and managed the experimental farm.

He was hired by Purdue University in 1879 as the first instructor in the School of Agriculture. He later became President of Colorado State University from 1882 to 1891.
