Historical Information
The Veterinary Medicine Isolation Facility was originally known as the Large Animal Isolation Unit. It is an eight-stall building that is completely separate from the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. It is mainly used for treating horses, but one stall is used for cattle. The separation of this building from the main hospital helps to insure that an infectious animal cannot contaminate non-infected hospital patients. The building also contains a treatment room, a sterilization room, two small storage rooms, and office space. A large mechanical room is the largest room in the building and houses specialized air-handling equipment.
