They provided housing for 800 men, which was a small portion of of the anticipated increased student population. The Student Memorial Union Courts and Student Union B Courts were built at a combined cost of approximately $1,300,000. Six more buildings were added to the area shortly after and were also referred to as the Student Memorial Union Courts (Phase 2 and Phase 3). All of the buildings were later referred to as the Harrison Street Courts before being renamed the South Campus Courts in 1965. In 1994 the two original buildings were removed and replaced with a parking lot.
In 1956, five buildings were added to the Student Memorial Union Courts (Phase 2). They provided housing for a small portion of of the anticipated increased student population. The last South Campus Courts Building was built (Phase 3) in 1968 just east of the South Campus Court Building A.
South Campus Courts buildings A, B, C, D, and E were torn down in 2017 to make room for a new Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital.
