Purdue Village Apartments (West Lafayette, Ind.)
Historical Information
58 Married Student Courts buildings were built in 1958. They were made of brick and steel and were built at a total cost of $10,200,000. All of the apartments were built to replace the temporary barrack accommodations erected to house the influx of married students after World War II. Families were able to rent unfurnished two-bedroom apartments and single graduate students could rent furnished one or two-bedroom apartments. Sixteen more apartments were built in 1962 (Married Student Courts - II) and five apartments were added in 1967 (Married Student Courts - III).
Eleven of the original apartments were torn down in 2003 in order to make room for the Bindley Bioscience Center and Birck Nanotechnology Center. In the following decades others were razed to make way for Discovery Park and other new construction.
