Historical Information

The first 22 Hilltop Apartments were built in 1949 and were originally known as Ross Ade I. Buildings 1-22 each contained 16 apartments that were equipped with small kitchens and personal bathrooms. Five buildings were added to the Hilltop apartments in 1957 (Phase 2) and another five were added in 1969 (Phase 3). All 22 buildings housed single undergraduate men and were staffed by five staff residents and 17 RAs.

The second phase of construction of the Hilltop Apartments occurred in 1957. This phase added five more buildings to the complex that were originally referred to as Ross-Ade II. These buildings contained 10 one-bedroom apartments that were used as married student housing. Each apartment contained a front living area, small kitchen, and personal bathroom. Each building also had its own laundry room.

The final five Ross-Ade III Apartments were built in 1969. Hilltop Apartment buildings 28-32 are high-rise style buildings with larger apartments that can accommodate up to three students.

Prior to 1976, all 32 buildings were used as married student housing. In 1978, the entire Ross Ade I area was converted to single undergraduate housing. In 1992 the buildings were renamed the Hilltop Apartments and became coeducational.
