Historical Information

The Purdue University Navy Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) program was established in the fall of 1946. Upon completing their degrees, NROTC students were actively commissioned into the U.S. Navy. As Purdue University was and still is a land-grant institution, male students attending Purdue were initially required to take two years of ROTC however this requirement was dropped in the fall of 1965. Just a few years later in the 1970s, ROTC programs began admitting female students as well.

The NROTC program is operated by the U.S. Navy.
