TIGHAR is the The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery, a non-profit foundation dedicated to promoting responsible aviation archaeology and historic preservation. TIGHAR's mission is to compile and verify reports of rare and historic aircraft surviving in remote areas. They also conduct investigations and recovery expeditions in co-operation with museums and collections worldwide. One of their key expeditions being the search for Amelia Earhart, Fred Noonan and her lost Electra plane.

TIGHARS’s mission statement also states that they serve "as a voice for integrity, responsibility, and professionalism in the field of aviation historic preservation.
