The Department of Chemistry was formed in 1874 and was a staple as one of the founding programs of the University. The department belongs to the College of Science and students can pursue one of two deprees: A bachelor of science in chemistry or a bachelor of science with chemistry as a field of study.

Scope and Contents One folder containing correspondence, letters of recommendation, transcript records, documents regarding Sol Boyk's graduate assistantship at Purdue University while working towards his Ph.D. in the Chemistry Department.

The folder also contains a letter written by M. G. Mellon to Mrs. Eleanor Boyk, which describes his fond memories of Sol Boyk and how he stood out as an exemplary graduate student in the Chemistry Department at Purdue University.

Brown Papers [360 cubic feet] document the professional life and some of the personal life of Herbert Brown, winner of the 1979 Nobel Prize for Chemistry and former Purdue University professor. Herschel Hunt papers

Scope and Contents The Herschel Hunt papers consist of publications Hunt wrote while a Purdue Chemistry professor, including the book, Physical Chemistry, in which Hunt made notations. Also included is a certificate Professor Hunt received from Sigma Delta Chi for "best teacher award" in 1942. There is an "A Bomb" pin, and a certificate from the United States Office of Scientific Research and Development, for Hunt's scientific research contributions during World War II.
