Space shuttle Challenger was operated by NASA, first launched in April 1983. Shortly after launch, it was destroyed in January 1986, killing all seven crewmembers. It was used in ten missions to space that helped launch satellites, testing, and other missions. Challenger also took the first female astronaut, Sally Ride, to space in 1983.
