Biography
In 1971 President Hansen proposed the development of the Office for University Relations. The new office would deal with alumni relations, financial development, and public relations. The office would be headed by a Vice President for University Relations. In 1976 Kathleen Rydar appears as the director of the Office of University Relations in an Exponent article. In 1985 a new Office of University Relations was created from the consolidation and merger of the Office of Publication, the university news service, the Office of Community Relations, and the old Office of University Relations. Joseph L. Bennett, former Director of Public Information, was appointed as the first director of the new office. President Beering advocated for the consolidation to streamline Purdue’s public relations teams. The Office of Public Relations directly reports to the president and acts as the official voice and representative of Purdue University. In 2001 President Martin Jischke announced that the Office of University Relations would merge with the University Development Office and the Purdue radio stations (WBAA AM & FM) to form the new Office of University Advancement.
